The boring layer that has to be right
Postgres on Supabase or Neon, tRPC or REST depending on the client. React Query in the browser. Zod at every boundary that matters.
How it stays up at 3am
Vercel for edge-first products, AWS or Fly for anything stateful or latency-bound. Infra-as-code, preview environments per PR, alerting that pages a human before a customer notices.
The principles below aren't aspirations on a wall. Each one blocks a pull request when it's violated, which is the difference between an engineering culture and an engineering slogan.
TypeScript strict from the database row to the rendered pixel. If the compiler is happy, the runtime usually is too.
Budgets enforced in CI. We catch regressions on a pull request, not in a Slack thread from the CMO three weeks later.
WCAG AA is the floor, not the ceiling. Keyboard, screen-reader and reduced-motion paths get tested alongside the happy path.
Row-level security, scoped tokens, signed webhooks. No customer data leaves the boundary it was created in — ever, even in dev.
Playwright on the critical paths, unit tests where logic is dense, none where they only ossify the code. We test for confidence, not coverage.
